Everyone assumes aluminium is lighter. Our handmade steel roof racks aren’t – careful tube sizing and design keep every MCB rack lighter than most aluminium ones.
Steel is strong enough for roof tents, jerry cans and years of off-road use – and any welder, anywhere, can repair it.
Every rack is made to order in our Huddersfield workshop, as it has been since 2004 – no mass production, no flat-pack imports.

THE WORKSHOP
One workshop. Every rack made by hand.
Since 2004 Matt has handmade MCB racks in steel in Heckmondwike, Huddersfield. No production line, no flat-pack imports – just racks built to last, for the vehicle they’re going on.
Collect it free or have it fitted for £40 at the workshop, or at our approved fitting partner LCM 4x4 in Llandysul, West Wales.
An expedition roof rack for the Land Rover Defender 110, handmade to order in steel by Matt in our Huddersfield workshop. An upper rail runs around the whole rack, so smaller boxes and bags stay put.
It clamps to the Defender’s roof gutters, so it sits low on the roof.
Steel, but lighter than most aluminium racks, and never mass-produced. Racks have been built here since 2004.
Add a mesh base when you order. For light, awning, Hi-Lift or sand ladder mounts and a rear ladder, use the rack builder to place them exactly where you want.
